AppleTree Early Learning Parklands opened in 2011, expanding AppleTree’s reach to Washington DC’s Ward 8. Our recently renovated Parklands campus is conveniently located on Savannah Street near THEARC and has plenty of space and natural light for promoting a positive learning environment.
Today, our Parklands campus is proud to serve 80 children in 4 classrooms. Parklands families are given opportunities to volunteer and parent workshops are offered on a regular basis. Our families are engaged in monthly events and are eager to participate in field trips and literacy nights. Parents also receive a monthly newsletter outlining pertinent information from each class and the school.
Niesha Cumberbatch came to AppleTree in March 2016 and is Resident Principal of AppleTree’s Parklands campus. Ms. Cumberbatch spent the past 17 years as an educator working with students in preschool through 8th grade and most recently, as the preschool through third grade Special Education Coordinator at Two Rivers Public Charter School. She also has had the privilege of working with children with Asperger’s/Autism and other language/communication challenges while also conducting monthly parent education workshops. Ms. Cumberbatch has a Master of Education (literacy and language), a Master of Religion (pastoral counseling) and a Bachelor of Arts (psychology). She is receiving additional training this year in the Emerging Leaders Program with New Leaders. She is excited about building relationships with the staff, students and families at our Parklands campus.
