Instructional Program

AppleTree Early Learning Public Charter School (AELPCS) utilizes an evidence-based instructional program that supports the development of young children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development. AELPCS supports the instructional program with robust professional development and continuously evaluates its efficacy using valid and reliable measures.

The goal of AELPCS is to prepare children to transition successfully into kindergarten with the foundational skills that research demonstrates are predictive of later academic success. Specifically, the instruction program supports the development of the following:

  • Language and Early Literacy Skills: Oral Expression, Vocabulary, Phonological Awareness, Letter Knowledge, Early Word Recognition, Print & Book Awareness and Written Expression
  • Mathematics: Number and Number Sense, Computation, Measurement, Geometry, Data Collection and Patterns & Relationships
  • Science: Scientific Investigation, Reasoning, & Logic, Force, Motion, & Energy, Matter, Life Processes and Earth Patterns, Cycles, and Changes
  • History and Social Science: History, Geography, World of Work, and Citizenship
  • Creative Arts: Movement, Dramatic Play, Art and Music
  • Physical Development, Health & Safety: Gross Motor, Fine Motor and Health & Safety
  • Social & Emotional Development: Cooperation, Persistence, Attending and Self-Regulation

Children explore content through deep, thematic investigations in areas of natural interest to young children using the “Opening the World of Learning” curriculum as a resource. Children engage in the content through a balance of individual, small group and large group activities. AELPCS uses an innovative progress monitoring system to ensure that all children make progress in the curriculum and to assist teachers in tailoring instruction to meet the needs of all children.
